First Final Draft Due Today!!

Today's agenda and our next class is simple:

Today:
*** Hand in your final drafts, with all other drafts stapled beneath it
*** Take a couple of breaths and consider YOUR writing process that led you to your final draft.
Login to your blog and discuss the following questions in a new post before you leave today: What was the greatest challenge that you faced in the composition--was it: finding a topic? getting the computer to cooperate? adequate development? Whatever it was, explain the challenge in writing and what you did to handle it.
In another paragraph, explain how YOU reacted to reading other blogs. Did you enjoy it? What it more of a pain and aggravation? What did YOU gain in reading and , more importantly, commenting on the blogs you read? When you went back to YOUR own blog and to your essay that you posted, did the comments that were made give you reason to look at your essay more closely? Why -- or why not? Your honest responses will help make this a better learning experience next time. If you have any suggestions, please feel free to make them. I realize that not all essays were posted in a timely fashion, nor were all comments made conscientiously. Of those essays and comments that were attended to, what was your reaction?

For our next class:

Read pages 157-186 in the Brief Bedford Reader--this is the section on essays developed by example. Be sure to take a close look at the two essays on the homeless and the manner in which these are developed. We'll be discussing this chapter on Thursday and next Tuesday. Your next rough draft should be posted on your blog by next Thursday. You can create choose from topics at the bottom of page 187 -- or check with me, if you have another idea

  1. my greatest challenge was that most of the writing that i have done is based primarily on my emotions and the past week has been a roller coaster. i had a wreck last friday and was out work a few days and i figured that would give some time to work on not being so personal in my essay but my 18th month old ending up getting sick than this weekend i picked up the cold and yesterday i found out my car was totalled loss this has been a wild two weeks but in the end i buckled down and with the help and reasurrance of my significant other i have managed the time

  2. The greatest challenge for me was trying to decide on a topic. So I sat down in my quiet room and tried to pull out an experience from my memory that I could elaborate on. It was quite difficult at first but once I thought of something I just ran with. I put a lot of energy and time into this paper. For me its kind of like art. You know when you have completed a painting you are so critical of it. Most people would be like thats so beautiful but you are the critic and you always find small things that aren't perfect. Papers are the same way with me, I put all I could in this so I guess I can't complain.
I really enjoyed reading all the blogs. It was a good way to give feedback and also receive it. The comments on my blog were helpful. I really want to thank those that took the time to read it and give their input! Although, on paper it is easier to correct problems with editing, the blog did help me with the actual revising. I think the blog to blog was a big help and it also gave me confidence in my writing! Thanks!:)

  3. i enjoyed reading others blogs its kind of relaxing to know your not the only one whose world gets kind of crazy at times. commenting on them was a different thing. there were some i found the topic to be very interesting but kind of drafted at the end and that helped me a lot to because i was able to realized the shifts in my own paper. i take criticism very well and i enjoy both the positive comments and the corrective comments. it helps me see that everyone has their own objective on good writing

  5. i guess my bigest problem was the computer. i was out sick the class after the thursday you assined it and i woke up to find that my dad had unpluged my computer. well i was suposed to get my new laptop that day so i figured i could right it on that. well first i was suposed to get it that afternoon but i didn't get it until like 8 that night. then i started the paper as soon as i got home. after about the first paragraph i stop and saved it. then i went to shut down the computer and just i was about to hit the start button i got a message that said the computer didn't reconize the hard drive. i am not exactly sure all that the hard drive does, but i know it is important. so i took the computer back the next day to the man so he could fix it. so i wrote the paper before class in the libray. i love computers as much as the next person, but they can really be a pain in the butt.

  6. The greatest challenge, I faced was getting the computer to cooperate. The computer in the classroom is totally different from my personal computer at home. When I first wrote my paper, I down loaded it to my USB drive, but when I put it in the computer in the classroom; the computer deleted all my files, so I had to rewrite my paper over again from memory. I also, felt that my paper didn't have adequate development in the beginning; therefore, I used several transitions to make it flow better. I enjoyed reading the three people essay's that I was assign to read, but I also enjoyed reading some others. Most important, letting others know about the small mistakes such as, grammar errors and misspelled words. When I looked back at the comments posted on my blog, I was pleased because there is always room for improvement. I love how Mrs. Aiken let us look at our peers work.

  8. Since my composition was based on a real life experience and real feelings it was very hard to put those feelings to paper without sounding like a "mother" just rambling about her child. I wanted people to be able to feel the way the atmosphere, room and attitudes were without leaving out how the emotional stress was intesified. I hope and I believe I accomplished this, though it was difficult. My second challenge was just simply the subject itself. I enjoy talking and writing about my son and his journey through cancer but my feelings are still very raw were this is concerned, I cried everytime I worked on the composition. My friends and family tell me those are cleansing tears and I believe them because I always feel better AFTER talking/writing about it.

Reading other's blogs was very enjoyable to me. I was able to invision and feel there experience. It showed me just how different we all really are. I do not think I read any two papers that consisted of the same information or experience. I also think it makes me realize my errors as I read other compositions and could see how things were worded or discribed. There were a couple of compositions I read that really just did not understand, however those were words, sentences and paragraphs from someone elses heart and mind. Even though I did not understand them I am glad I read them.

I was shocked at the responses I received on my blog about my composition. It is truly emotional to write but it is something much deeper when you know others read your writings and enjoyed them or even did not enjoy them, but they took the time to read them.

Hope everyone has a great week,
    Mimo (Michele Mock)

  9. When I did my essay I was kind of disappointed because I really didnt know whatto write about even though the book give us topic but overall I think I did fine. When reading others essays I found out that the other classmates really did enjoy the topic because I seen writing that was great. I feel that each everyone of could use improvement on writing.
